Get started
1. Claim a name
- Create an account at the dashboard and confirm your email.
- Open Domains & DNS, find Claim a new domain, type the name you want and choose
malvintech.sbs. - Submit. If the name is free, it appears in your list straight away.
Names can use letters, numbers and hyphens. Some names are reserved and cannot be claimed.
2. Add a record
Open your name and add a record. The name field is relative to your domain: @ means the name itself.
| You want to use | Name | Type | Value |
|---|---|---|---|
| GitHub Pages | @ | CNAME | yourusername.github.io |
| Vercel | @ | CNAME | the value shown in your Vercel project |
| Cloudflare Pages | @ | CNAME | your-project.pages.dev |
| Your own server | @ | A | your server's IPv4 address |
| Site verification | @ | TXT | the text your host asks for |
Add the name on the host too. GitHub Pages, Vercel and similar hosts only serve a custom name after you add it in their settings. They may also issue a certificate, which can take a few minutes.
A name with a CNAME cannot hold other records. If you need a TXT or MX record on the same name, use an A record instead, or put the CNAME on a subdomain such as
www.3. Make subdomains of your name
Your name works like a small domain of its own. If you claimed alexey.malvintech.sbs:
Name Type Value Result king A 203.0.113.10 king.alexey.malvintech.sbs api.king CNAME my-app.example.com api.king.alexey.malvintech.sbs * A 203.0.113.10 anything.alexey.malvintech.sbs
4. Use your own nameservers
To manage the name at another DNS provider (Cloudflare, for example), add NS records on your name pointing to the nameservers that provider gives you. Add at least two. From then on the other provider answers for the whole name, so records you keep here stop being used.
5. Check that it works
Look up your name from any computer:
nslookup alexey.malvintech.sbs dig alexey.malvintech.sbs CNAME
New records normally appear within a few minutes. If the lookup shows your value, DNS is done and any remaining problem is on the host side.
If something does not work
- The record is saved but the lookup finds nothing. Wait a few minutes, then check the name and type for typos.
- The lookup is right but the site does not load. Add the name in your host's settings and wait for its certificate.
- The dashboard rejects a record. The message says why. Common causes are a CNAME next to another record, or a value in the wrong format.
- Still stuck. Email [email protected] with your full name and what you tried.
