Questions and answers
Is it really free?
Yes. There is no charge for a name and no card is asked for. We may limit how many names one account can hold, and the limit is shown in your dashboard.
Can I use it for a business or a commercial project?
Yes, as long as it follows the acceptable use policy. Free names come without any service guarantee, so important production systems should have a plan for moving to a name you own.
Which record types can I add?
A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, SRV, CAA and NS. You can also create your own subdomains under your name, including a wildcard.
Can I run email on my name?
You can add MX and TXT records for a mail provider. Sending bulk or unsolicited email is not allowed.
Can I use my own nameservers?
Yes. Add NS records on your name that point to your DNS provider. See step 4 of the guide.
How long do changes take?
New records usually reach our DNS within a minute or two. Other networks can cache old answers for a while, so give it a few minutes before assuming something is wrong.
Why was my name suspended or removed?
Usually because of a report or an automatic check that found phishing, malware, spam or another rule violation. If you think it was a mistake, email us the full name and we will look at it.
Can I proxy or mirror someone else's website through my name?
Not without the owner's permission. Names that impersonate or copy other sites are removed.
How do I delete my account?
Remove your names from the dashboard, then email [email protected] from your account address and we will delete the account and its data.
